TORONTO -- The Toronto Raptors have named Jeff Weltman as executive vice president of basketball operations. Weltman joins the Raptors following five seasons as assistant general manager with the Milwaukee Bucks. Weltman spent a season in Detroit as the director of basketball administration before moving to Milwaukee in 2008. From 2001-06, Weltman served as the assistant general manager with the Denver Nuggets. He played a role in hiring Ujiri to the Nuggets staff as an international scout. In Denver, Weltman helped shift the Nuggets from a struggling team with no salary cap flexibility to a consistent playoff threat. Weltman joined the Nuggets after serving 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he had served as director of player personnel since 1994. In that role, he oversaw the Clippers scouting department and contributed to other aspects of the clubs day-to-day basketball operations. During his last season (2000-01), the Clippers improved their win total by 16 -- the biggest turnaround in the league. Sacramento Kings Jersey . Jason Zucker and Matt Cooke also scored for Minnesota, which has won five of six. Kuemper made five saves in the first, nine in the second, and nine in the third. The rookies best save came with 2:17 left in the third period when he denied former Wild forward Matt Cullen from just outside of the crease on the right side. Chris Webber Jersey .Y. -- Sabres forward Drew Stafford has witnessed plenty of turmoil during his eight seasons in Buffalo. . That left plenty of energy for pitching books and swatting away free agency questions. Anthony had 24 points and nine rebounds, and the Knicks avenged an embarrassing home loss with a rout of their own, beating the Boston Celtics 114-88 on Wednesday night for their third straight victory. Chris Webber Kings Jersey . Philadelphia is 2-0 against the Senators this season and scored five goals in each victory. The Flyers recorded a 5-0 win in Ottawa on Nov. 12 and then earned a 5-2 home decision on Nov. 19. The Flyers have claimed three straight and four of the last five encounters with the Sens overall and Philly has won two in a row and three of its past four tests in Canadas capital city. Custom Sacramento Kings Jersey . Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. WINNIPEG -- Winnipeg Blue Bomber coach Tim Burke says hell keep harping on the need to hold onto the ball, but at some point people will move if the turnovers dont stop. "All we can do is keep emphasizing it," he said Friday after a 19-11 win over the Alouettes in Montreal. "(But) sooner or later, well have to put different people in different positions. We certainly cant turn the ball over late in the game like that, or almost turn it over late in the game. That was probably the scariest one of all." Burke was referring to Jovon Johnsons fumble of a kickoff in the fourth that was pounced on by teammate Bryant Turner before it fell into the wrong hands. The Bombers (1-1) turned the ball over five times on Thursday, three times in the first quarter alone. Turnovers were also a major factor in Winnipegs 38-33 home opener loss to Montreal the week before. In addition to reducing turnovers, Burke says the Bombers have to find a way to defend against the blitz that hampered their offence. Pierce was sacked five times. "Were going to have to come up with an answer for that or well see the blitzing every week," he said. Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo had it even worse. He was sacked seven times as Winnipegs defence stymied the Alouettes new, no-huddle offence. Turner, who has developed into one of the most reliable players on the Bomber defence, had to stay behind at a Montreal hospital for observation after the game. Burke says initial tests turned up nothing but they will know more in a day or so. "They didnt really find anything significant," Burke said. "They just kept him there overnight to make sure hes OK." Turner, in his third season with the Bombers and tied for the CFL lead in sacks already with three in just two games, appeared to have difficulty breathing in the fourth.dddddddddddd He was given oxygen on the field. Overall, the biggest factor in the win Thursday appeared to be Winnipegs strong defence that kept Calvillo from getting past the Bomber goal line most of the night. Burke, a former defensive co-ordinator, made it clear in training camp he wanted a lot more from the Winnipeg defence, in particular the secondary. Veteran Jonathan Hefney was released when he failed to measure up and the tough love approach seems to have worked, with the defence looking more like that of Bomber editions past. Winnipeg built a reputation for itself in the CFL as a tough defensive team. "Great effort," said Burke. "Guys were very solid up front with pressure on the quarterback and the secondary was very good at not giving up any big plays. Im really happy with those guys." Burke said overall he was happy with the effort shown on both sides of the ball. Pierce agreed they have to find a way to stop the turnovers but he took positives out of the way the offence hung in there, even capitalizing on the blitz that left receiver Cory Watson open at times. "A tipped pass, deep in your own territory, and it gets picked off, those things are going to happen," said Pierce. "You have to be able to fight through that and be mentally tough. We were pinned down and last week we couldnt get out of our own zone and (this week) we made a big play to Cory and got out of our zone and put together a 105-yard-drive right there. "Those are things were capable of. Weve got to continue to work at it and put it all together." Cheap Jerseys ' ' '
